Aunt Lute Books is a San Francisco-based nonprofit press dedicated to publishing literature by women whose voices have been traditionally underrepresented in publishing: women whose voices shift boundaries, challenge borders, and defy expectations. For over 30 years we’ve brought revolutionary queer women to the forefront of literature. Donate to our press to help support another 30 years.

In donating to Aunt Lute Books, you contribute to us in the following ways:

Diverse publications: There are few nonprofit publishing presses in this country, and even fewer nonprofit, women-run presses. As a nonprofit, we have more leeway to take risks on new, promising young authors, and we take the time to promote their work and foster dialogues around their books. This is to say, grants and generous donations help us do more than just publish books: it helps us continue the conversation.

Internship program: Our paid internship program offers mentorship and training to young women of varied backgrounds interested in learning about the many aspects of a non-profit, feminist publishing press.

Programming: In addition to publishing, Aunt Lute Books frequently collaborates with local Bay Area organizations to host author workshops, readings, panels, and other events--all of which we keep free of charge to maximize accessibility.

Here is what can happen if you donate: All donations are important, no matter how small the amount. awards monetary prizes to organizations that have the most donors in their region. This means your donation of any size will bring us closer to winning additional prizes!Additionally, we're giving away prizes to three randomly selected donors! Stay tuned for more info.

Events: In 2018, Aunt Lute Books hosted "Poetry in the Borderlands": a poetry open mic with San Francisco Poet Laureate, Kim Shuck at Alley Cat Books, one of our favorite bookstores (and neighbors). Later in the year, we organized “Would You Be Caught Dead in That Outfit?” a multimedia arts event with Juliana Delgado Lopera, celebrating Latinx clubbing aesthetics of the '80s and '90s – bringing the histories of ¡Cuéntamelo!  to San Francisco’s iconic gay bar, the STUD.

Forthcoming titles:
Aunt Lute Books is excited to announce our forthcoming title, POC United: Graffiti (Fall 2019), edited by Tamika Thompson, Pallavi Dhawan, and Devi Laskar! This anthology of writers of color asks, "What happens when whiteness is decentralized for writers of color?"
We’ve got more exciting additions currently in the works, but can’t announce them just yet. Stay tuned for more updates.

Community Collaborations: This year, Aunt Lute Books is excited to sponsor a series of literary and art workshops, organized by Texas-based poet Emmy  Pérez, with poet Veronica Sandoval and artist Celeste De Luna. The series, set in Southern Texas, culimnates in a set of performances and a publication with Aunt Lute Books!
