Proud moment when API Equality-LA and the community came together in my hometown SGV to counter the hateful anti-LGBTQ protest.
I joined API Equality-LA after the passage of Prop 8, which banned same-sex marriages in CA. They created a space for me to feel safe, proud and empowered to channel my energy in making a positive change in the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) and LGBTQ community.
Today is national GIVE OUT Day, so I'm asking my friends and family to pitch in at least $11 in honor of our 11th Anniversary. I want to fundraise so that others can have the same opportunities I did. There's so much good we can all bring to this world. I hope you will join me today to GIVE OUT :)
API Equality-LA is a grassroots nonprofit organization that serves the Greater Los Angeles community. We work within the Asian and Pacific Islander and LGBTQ+ communities in order to promote racial and social justice. Much of our work is driven by dedicated members and volunteers; thus, we are truly a community-driven and run organization!
Featured projects from interns and volunteers this summer:
· Helped lead 1st Trans Allyship Teach-In with community members
· Led 626 Night Market Outreach where we spoke to over 500 members of the community and received 197 signed pledge forms over one weekend!
· Attended Queer Justice Youth Convening to discuss the climate for queer and trans youth in the Los Angeles area
· Held trans-focused educational workshops with community partners, such as Chinatown Community for Equitable Development (CCED), to open up discussions about gender and sexuality within our API communities
