SUPPORT CANDLE FOR "GIVE OUT DAY!"
***Benefiting The Common Threads Youth Empowerment Retreat***
CANDLE’s Youth Pride Initiative provides support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth who live in and around Rockland County. Along with offering support groups and educational workshops, YPI organizes a weekend-long youth empowerment retreat called Common Threads. Each year, nearly 100 high school students gather at Common Threads for 3 days of workshops, community building and leadership training. For many of our youth, this is the only space where they feel comfortable being who they are.
Common Threads nurtures and empowers LGBTQ youth and allies to live healthy, happy and fulfilling lives. Because of the support we offer, these youth can make positive changes in their families, schools and communities, improving the cultural climate for everyone they touch and making them safer for other LGBTQ people.
Common Threads registration fees don't cover the full cost per participant to CANDLE. We never turn away a young person away who cannot afford the fees. Your generous contribution provides scholarships for those who cannot pay the full cost, enabling every youth who wants to attend can be there.

o TRUST- A bi-weekly supportive & educational group.
o The Trans Youth Group - A bi-weekly meeting for transgender and gender non-conforming youth.
o The Leadership Project- A volunteer program which trains LGBTQ young adults to be mentors to program participants as well as connects them to the Rockland LGBTQ community.
o Assistance & support of Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) in schools.
o Trainings and workshops on LGBTQ youth issues & cultural competency for youth-serving professionals & parents.
o Resources and referrals to youth in need.
o Collaboration with other youth organizations to create LGBTQ inclusive programming.
CANDLE's Youth Pride Initiative primarily serves LGBTQ youth in the Lower Hudson Valley region of New York State, but has programs that serve any LGBTQ youth and their allies in the Northeast.
