Young queer and trans people of color take bold risks to move mountains in this country every day. Whenever you give to Third Wave, you help those mountains move.
This GiveOUT day, if we can raise $5,000 in 24 hours, a courageous donor will throw in triple that amount - making it $20,000 for QTPOC organizers on the frontlines of resistance.
Despite the power of these movements and mounting political threats, this work remains critically under-resourced, with only 0.015% of foundation funding to trans-specific work.
Our grantees are creative and visionary, and they inspire us to innovate new ways to resource our movements. That’s why we fund non-501(c)(3)s, accept proposals in Spanish, and take applications by phone and by video.
That’s also why this spring, we started the first-ever Sex Worker-led Giving Circle housed at a US foundation, with sex workers in charge of awarding over $200,000 in grants to their own movements. We believe that the communities most impacted by oppression are the experts on how to organize against it.
These communities - the communities we fund - take huge risks and make brave moves towards our liberation every day. Take a look at what happened with these funds in 2017:
We need you to take a big risk alongside our these movements and give boldly with a one-time gift or a monthly donation today.
- $1,000 supported a Black trans woman’s travel & labor expenses to facilitate a storytelling workshop on survival and transformation in D.C.
- $500 funded safety-planning webinars for femmes of all genders to confront suicidality in their communities in response to the loss of multiple queer femmes to suicide.
- $100 helped a trans person legally change their name in Selma, Alabama.
- $50 paid for art supplies for an LGBTQ Latinx Advocacy day at the Texas Capital.
We can raise $20,000 to resource queer and trans youth of color’s resistance today. Let’s make it happen.
