On April 30, Utahns come together for 24 hours to strengthen the communities we call home. This year, we invite you to stand with LGBTQIA+ Utahns and the families who love them.
Affirmation is an independent, nonprofit organization creating communities of safety, love, and hope for LGBTQIA+ individuals across Utah and around the world. For nearly five decades, we have affirmed the inherent self-worth of LGBTQIA+ people as complete, equal, and valuable persons. We promote understanding, acceptance, and self-determination for individuals of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions.
Affirmation operates independently and is not owned, governed, or directed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or any other religious institution. We are led by LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies who believe every person deserves dignity, belonging, and the freedom to define their own spiritual journey.
Why This Matters in Utah
Here in Utah, that work matters deeply.
For many LGBTQIA+ Utahns, isolation is real. Young people struggle to reconcile identity and faith. Parents want to support their children but don’t always know how. Adults navigating complex spiritual, cultural, and family transitions often feel alone. In these moments, community is not just helpful — it can be life-saving.
When someone finds Affirmation, they often say the same thing:
“I didn’t know a space like this existed.”
They find others who understand their experience. They find mentors who have walked similar paths. They find language for their story. They find hope during moments that once felt overwhelming.
Families find support, too. Parents connect with other parents navigating unfamiliar conversations. Siblings gain understanding. Couples strengthen communication. Faith and identity discussions become less frightening and more grounded in compassion and love.
What Your Donation Helps Make Possible
Your support on Utah Gives Day helps sustain this work across Utah:
$25 helps offset the cost of technology, moderation, and online platforms that keep our communities safe and accessible year-round
$75 helps support local Utah gatherings, Pride participation, and community support activities
$150 helps support suicide prevention education, safety training, and related program materials
$500 helps invest in leadership development, coordination, and training for Utah-based volunteers
Donations support Affirmation’s programs and operations and are used where most needed to advance our mission.
Why Affirmation
Utah is home to vibrant, multigenerational communities built on resilience and shared values. We believe LGBTQIA+ people belong fully within that story. We believe families are stronger when rooted in understanding. We believe dignity, compassion, and courage make our state better.
For nearly 50 years, Affirmation has stood with LGBTQIA+ individuals and their loved ones. We are sustained not by institutions, but by people — people who believe every life has worth and every story deserves respect.
Leadership Support Makes This Possible
In addition to community gifts, leadership contributions play a critical role in sustaining Affirmation’s work in Utah. Leadership gifts help stabilize programs, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure long-term impact beyond a single giving day.
If you are interested in making a leadership-level gift or serving as a challenge donor for Utah Gives Day, we invite you to connect with us directly to discuss how your support can strengthen this work.
