Cornbread & Roses (CBR) is a 2SLGBTQIA+ led and focused nonprofit dedicated to creating an inclusive and affirming space for individuals from marginalized communities in rural Western North Carolina.

Our mission is to foster community, celebrate diversity, and provide holistic therapeutic support to empower personal growth, resilience, and healing. We exist to fill vital gaps in services and to create community in the tradition of our Appalachian heritage, with love, joy, pride, solidarity, and good food.

In 2022, CBR first opened its doors with the intention of providing accessible, sliding-scale mental health services to LGBTQ+ people in Western North Carolina. However, it soon became clear to those of us involved that there were far more needs present in these hills and hollers. Mental health means more than weekly therapy sessions and self-care routines. It’s also access to food, education, safe and affirming spaces, joy, a sense of belonging, and, most importantly, community. You know, the roses. Because at CBR we believe that we all deserve to thrive, not just survive.

With help from our volunteers, monetary and in-kind donations, partnerships with other organizations, and input from our community members, CBR has been able to expand the services we offer to help even more people.

But the need is growing, and we can’t do this work without your support.

Join Cornbread & Roses in continuing to grow by helping us meet our goal of $100,000 for Give OUT Day 2025. Every cent earned will go toward supporting our therapists in providing affirming and accessible mental health services, buying supplies and food for community events or clinical groups, building a queer lending library, and continuing to operate a low-barrier food pantry for the rural population of WNC.
