El/La Para TransLatinas

A nonprofit organization

El/La Para TransLatinas works towards a world where TransLatinas are protected, celebrated, and loved, where trans/intersex/gender diverse Latinx people are welcome, safe, represented and valued in all spheres of life. We envision a future in which the human rights to migration, housing, healthcare, food, and safety are respected and protected. Knowing that a more just society for TransLatinx people is a more just society for all, we push towards the day when ALL people and communities are seen, safe and free.

As translatinas, we exist at the intersection of transphobia, sexism, racism, xenophobia and classism. Our participants have experienced high levels of trauma; more than 1 in 4 trans people has faced a bias-driven assault and the average life expectancy of a transwoman of color is 35 years old. El/La is a trusted anchor in our community, working together to build collective vision and action so we can not only survive, but THRIVE and LEAD.

El/La's innovative, holistic, safe space provides programming in Spanish, based in Latin American culture, and connects low-income trans, intersex, and gender-diverse Latinx community to education and resources for self-determination, development, and growth. We build leadership and advocacy skills so we may lead the organization and work to secure racial and economic equity.
