Creating Change

Because of supporters like you, Family Equality has a 45-year legacy of advocating for LGBTQ+ families. In fact, we've played a pivotal role in...

• Advancing marriage equality across the nation

• Creating policies and practices that protect LGBTQ+ families in schools, healthcare settings, child welfare agencies, and more

• Pushing back against harmful legislation that seeks to silence or restrict the freedoms of LGBTQ+ families

And that's just a snapshot! This year alone, we’ve helped advance the Minnesota Building Families Act, reintroduced the RAISE Children Act in New York to create more streamlined paths to parental recognition, and helped sign HB328 into law in Virginia, which will establish essential health benefits like fertility coverage and assisted reproductive technology.

Making strides across the nation

We’re a national nonprofit, which means we’re working to connect with LGBTQ+ families across the United States. Family Equality is proud to host Family Weekend in the Midwest and Family Weekend in the South — beloved annual events designed to bring families together for fun and connection. And in July, we’ll host our annual Family Week in Provincetown — the largest gathering of LGBTQ+ families in the world. Last year, 1,300 people joined us for a jam-packed schedule of activities tailored for all ages.

Continuing our legacy

Legal, societal, and economic barriers still prevent LGBTQ+ people from starting, protecting, or sustaining families. State-sanctioned attacks on LGBTQ+ youth and families continue, and the Supreme Court has already signaled threats to additional freedoms like marriage, the ability of trans youth to participate in extracurricular activities, and more.
