GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law)

A nonprofit organization

Through strategic litigation, public policy advocacy, and education, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law) works in New England and nationally to create a just society free of discrimination based on gender identity and expression, HIV status, and sexual orientation.

For nearly five decades, GLAD Law has led the fight for justice and equality for LGBTQ+ individuals and people living with HIV through strategic litigation, policy advocacy, and public education. As a national organization with deep New England roots, GLAD Law brings 45 years of experience advancing justice for LGBTQ+ people and individuals living with HIV. Our record of groundbreaking victories includes securing the nation's first marriage equality ruling in Massachusetts—a case we successfully argued before the Supreme Court to win marriage equality nationwide. Beyond marriage, we've championed employment non-discrimination protections, advocated for LGBTQ+ youth, defended the rights of people living with HIV, and fought to eliminate anti-transgender discrimination.

GLAD Law operates GLAD Law Answers, a free and confidential legal information line to provide LGBTQ+ and HIV+ people throughout New England with information and resources to help them advocate for their rights. GLAD Law Answers operates at 800-455-GLAD Monday–Friday 9 AM – 5 PM or anytime via email at GLADLawAnswers.org
