GLSEN Mid-Hudson

A nonprofit organization

GLSEN (pronounced "glisten") is the leading organization working to improve K-12 school climate for LGBTQ youth by building the evidence base for action through our research; training educators and other school professionals to be LGBTQ competent; and harnessing the power of student leadership to make change.

GLSEN Mid-Hudson advances this mission through our work locally with K-12 school communities in Dutchess, Oranges, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties

We are proud of Chapter’s engagement with schools including:

  • Professional development trainings for thousands of educators, students and parents
  • Providing direct support and resources to Gender and Sexuality Alliance student clubs via our GSA Liaison
  • Purchasing LGBTQ-related books for school libraries
  • Consulting with school districts on inclusive policies and practices including implementation of the Dignity for All Students Act
  • In-school programs such as Solidarity Week, No Name-Calling Week and the Day of Silence
  • Encouraging involvement in the greater community through community partnerships and events
  • Safe Schools Project Grants

At GLSEN Mid-Hudson, we want every student, in every school, to be valued and treated with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. We believe that all students deserve a safe and affirming school environment where they can learn and grow.

Our work in the Mid-Hudson Valley cannot be accomplished without allies in the community like you. Please consider a donation to our Chapter this Give OUT Day! Together, we can transform our nation’s K-12 schools into the safe and affirming environment all youth deserve.
