LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education

LGBTQ campus leaders can be more effective if they can be out and authentic on the job–and LGBTQ students, faculty and staff can benefit from seeing out leaders on campus.

Many LGBTQ leaders are the only visible, out administrators at their institution, or even in their city or region. That’s why LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education is vital. 

In the words of our President (and President of Stockton University), Joe Bertolino, “Having LGBTQ mentors and role models changed the trajectory of my career. I can say with certainty that individuals like Chuck Middleton, Karen Whitney, and others gave me the confidence to be an out campus leader.”  

Following in their footsteps is Luca Lewis, President of Ventura College, and as far as we know, the first out trans college president in the country. Dr. Lewis says, “I could never have done it without the guidance and support of the LGBTQ Leaders in Higher Education.”

This Give Out Day, we have an ambitious goal. We are committed to raising $10,000 through Give Out Day to help cover the costs of our webinars, mentoring programs, and our Leadership Institute.
