LGBTQ+ Lorain County

In February 2017, a group of dedicated volunteers from across the county and from all walks of life—including church congregations, social services agencies, and the community-at-large—officially launched the Lorain County LGBTQ+ and Allies Community Task Force now known as LGBTQ+ Lorain County. Through personal networks and a needs assessment, the organization determined the high level of need for:

• LGBTQ+ friendly physical and mental healthcare services
• Cultural competency training for healthcare providers, law enforcement officials, schools, and employers in the County
• Increased visibility of local LGBTQ-identified people, and targeted social programming
• Partnerships with local businesses and organizations to ensure safe and welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ people
• Support for LGBTQ+ groups and students 
• Systematic data collection on the needs and struggles of LGBTQ+ persons living in Lorain County to inform future interventions and granting
• Collecting life stories from LGBTQ+ Lorain County residents to be archived
• Advocacy for employment protection policies for public employees who are LGBTQ+ identified
• Advocacy for anti-discrimination housing protections for LGBTQ+ people

LGBTQ+ Lorain County is the first organized group of its sort and has already made strides in connecting LGBT people from the County to one another, organizing fundraisers and educational events, and networking with larger LGBT groups in the northeast Ohio region. Your generous contribution to LGBTQ+ Lorain County will be used to support the organization, programs, and initiatives that benefit the LGBT community.
