Established in 2013, North Star proudly stands as Winston-Salem's LGBTQ+ Community Center.

About Us

Since its inception in 2013, North Star has been a pillar for the LGBTQ+ community in Winston-Salem and the greater Triad area. Over the past decade, we've grown into a vital hub of support and connection, celebrated through milestones like our recent grand reopening. Our tenth anniversary event was graced by the esteemed Mayor of Winston-Salem, Allen Joines.

Transforming Spaces and Lives

Our commitment to creating a welcoming and safe environment is evident in the extensive renovations to our center. We are now open Friday through Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm, offering a serene space equipped with free WiFi, snacks, and nonalcoholic beverages. Our expanded programming includes Trans and Gender Expanisve Support Groups, sponsored by Peaceworks Medical, which have dramatically increased in attendance, strengthening community ties and support.

Your Impact in Action

Your generous donations have transformed our center and our community. They've enabled us to furnish our space with comfortable, new furniture and establish a free coffee bar that’s become a favorite spot for our visitors. In October 2023, we hosted Queernival, a carnival-themed party at Fair Witness in Downtown Winston-Salem. 

In November, your support provided a warm, catered meal from Sol Catering for over 20 attendees at our Friendsgiving event. This gathering was not just a meal, but a celebration of community, belonging, and gratitude.

This year marks a significant expansion of our community efforts through a new partnership with Pride Connection, organizers of the beloved annual Pride Cookout. As we look forward to the 14th Annual Pride Cookout on June 1st, from 4 pm to 8 pm at South Fork Park (4403 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC), we are excited to invite you to be a part of this vibrant celebration.
