Established in 2013, North Star proudly stands as Winston-Salem's LGBTQ+ Community Center.

About Us

Since our founding in 2013, North Star has been a vital hub for the LGBTQ+ community in Winston-Salem and the greater Triad area. Since January 2026, we reached new milestones including:

• Creating many new programs for the local LGBTQ community. 
• An Affirmation Station complete with a mirror and affirmations. 
• Creating a clothing closet 
• A computer for use for our community members. 
• We have a new board chair and have added 3 new board members

Our Impact in Action

Your donations directly fund programs that support LGBTQ+ individuals across generations:

Sexuality and Gender Empowerment Youth Club (S.A.G.E.) – Our youth program continues to grow steadily, providing a safe space for young people to connect, learn, and be themselves. Many participants have become regular visitors during our open hours.

Monthly Music Round – This program has seen remarkable growth, bringing together singers, musicians, and community members from across the area. One participant and former board member even created a powerful new protest song that speaks directly to our community's experiences.

Texts & Tea - As one of our newest programs, we have an informal book club where people come and read their own books, drink tea then they are free to share about the book. 

Community Center Operations – We provided a comfortable, welcoming space with free WiFi, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages for hundreds of community members. We have a library filled with LGBTQ+ Friendly books.

Cocktails for a Cause: May 28th at Hel's

Celebrate Give OUT Day with us at our annual Cocktails for a Cause event! This year features amateur drag pageant, "Mx. Rising North Star" hosted by last year's winner Taco LaBelle! Come out for a night of fun, community, and fundraising!

14th Annual Pride Cookout: June 6th

Join us at Bolton Park from 4pm to 8pm for this beloved community celebration that brings together hundreds of people for food, music, and connection.
