Queer Asterisk is a mental health and community center led by queer and trans people. We believe in the power of connection, healing, and being true to who you are. Our team of LGBTQ+ therapists and educators creates safe, welcoming spaces for people to explore their identities, talk about their feelings, and build strong relationships.
Since 2016, we’ve supported queer, trans, and non-binary people—especially youth and families—across Colorado’s Front Range. We offer counseling, peer mentorship, community programs, and educational training. Many doctors and therapists don’t learn about LGBTQ+ experiences in their training, which makes it harder for our community to find care that feels safe and supportive. That’s why Queer Asterisk exists—to be a place where people are seen, respected, and celebrated.
Right now, LGBTQ+ people—especially trans youth—are facing growing attacks and harmful laws across the country. These challenges can cause fear, stress, and isolation. At Queer Asterisk, we work every day to push back against that fear by offering care, connection, and belonging. We know that when people feel accepted and supported, they can grow and thrive.
We are a nonprofit, and many of our clients use insurance or pay out of pocket. This helps us offer free or low-cost services to people who can’t afford care. But the need is growing faster than our resources. More people are reaching out for help—and we want to be there for all of them.
Your support helps us continue to show up for our community with love, strength, and hope. Please consider donating today. Together, we can keep building a world where everyone can be themselves and feel safe doing it.
"Receiving therapy/mental health services from Queer Asterisk has been life-changing. From the moment I sent the first email inquiring about services, I felt held and respected by their thoughtful, inclusive staff. In a day and age where fear and intolerance can run rampant, Queer Asterisk is a beacon of hope, showing what the best of humanity has to offer the LGBTQIA+ community."
- WOODZICK
"Queer Asterisk acts as a safe haven for queer and transgender clients and as an educational powerhouse for clinicians looking to improve their cultural competency around gender and sexual diversity. These conversations are important to have if we are to be truly prepared for the future."
- MARC AZOULAY MA, LPC, LAC, CGPPRESIDENT OF THE FOUR CORNERS GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY SOCIETY
"I can't say enough about Sorin Thomas and Queer Asterisk! Sorin took the time to partner with us and customize the presentation to include our district's protocol and equity framework. The training was professional, interactive, relevant and very well received by our diverse audience."
- RONALD LEE, PSYDDIRECTOR OF MENTAL HEALTH, CHERRY CREEK SCHOOLS
Queer Asterisk empowers and nurtures the diverse ways of being that queer people embody by providing accessible counseling, education and community programs that uplift queer, trans and gender expansive lives.
Founded in Boulder in 2016 by Naropa University graduates Sorin Thomas and Brett Adamek, Queer Asterisk is a team of queer and trans therapists and educators serving the LGBTQ+ communities. Education regarding the needs of this community is not typically included in the training medical professionals, creating a lack of access to LGBTQ+ aware/competent mental/behavioral health care. Queer Asterisk eliminates the fears that our community often face in seeking care by providing a safe space and affirmation of gender identity and sexuality. Additionally, our community groups provide space for folks who feel isolated to build connections within the community. As a nonprofit with revenues generated through clients covered by insurance or able to pay out of pocket, we can provide reduced and no cost services to community members without access to paid services. Despite gains around accessibility and informed care, the need for affordable care remains higher than our capacity to provide it.
