Dignity communities have been active across the U.S. and Canada for over fifty years. Called by God's justice and mercy rather than placated by certain church teachings, the Dignity community continually chooses to bring public awareness to the wholeness and holiness of LGBTQIA+ lives and families. We act locally, regionally, nationally and internationally to offer advocacy, education, support and community in the face of civil and ecclesial ignorance and injustice. We will not rest until our church and society mirror the face of God in the treatment of all God's children.

In the last year:

We stood for justice for our community signing onto amicus briefs to the US Supreme Court (Dobbs vs. Jackson and 303 Creative LLC v Elenis) and providing expert testimony in a Maryland Supreme Court Case that resulted in a ruling supporting the right of an employee of a Catholic agency in a same-sex marriage to benefits equity. We also launched the Beloved by God campaign affirming nonbinary and transgender people and denouncing societal and institutional attacks.

We built strength for the future launching a Leadership Academy at the San Diego conference, coaching leaders of a network of independent Catholic high schools on development and implementation of LGBTQIA+-affirming policies and programs and hosted an online retreat for the Dignity Young Adult Caucus.

We told our story by submitting powerful testimonies of LGBTQIA+ and Ally Catholics to the Vatican Synod Secretary, presented sessions at the Global Network of Rainbow Catholics’ Fourth Global Assembly in Mexico City and at Outreach 2022, and were featured in documentary film Wonderfully Made: LGBTQ+R(eligion) shown in film festivals across US and internationally.

We connected at our 25th National Conference, Proclaiming Our Vision: Church Transfigured, in San Diego and offered online Lent and Advent Scripture reflection series, Defenders Liturgy, group socials, author talks, the Catholic Pride Blessing, and a report on Global Network of Rainbow Catholics Assembly.

With your help, we'll continue to be the voice of LGBTQIA+ Catholics and respond to injustices wherever they arise.
