ABOUT US

Freedom, Inc. (FI) is a queer feminist non-profit that organizes within low to no-income Black and Southeast Asian communities. Our focus is on women and girls, gay, lesbian, transgender, intersex, and other queer folx.

Our mission is to achieve social justice through the coupling of direct services with community organizing. Through leadership development, community mobilization, and advancing community control measures, we will bring about social, political, cultural, and economic change. This will result in the end of violence against women, gender-non-conforming folks, as well as youth within our communities.

Freedom, Inc. works to dismantle the root causes of violence, poverty, racism and discrimination. Our belief is that people who are most affected by these issues must have voice, power, resources and choice, in order for true social change to happen.

OUR CURRENT WORK AREAS

• Protecting Survivors. We provide services and leadership opportunities to Black and Southeast Asian women and girls, and LGBTQI+ survivors of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and state-sanctioned violence.
• Battling Against Injustice. We advocate and organize for the rights of our communities. This may look like our many community-based campaigns, e.g., Police Free Schools Campaign, Defend Black Women, The People's Budget, etc.
• Building the World We Want. We honor Black and Southeast Asian cultures, experiences, and dignities. We values LGBTQI+ people. We value women and girls. We value elders, youth, and people with disabilities. No matter what, we value ALL of our people. We are actively building and practicing the world we want to live in that is supportive and transformative, e.g., Freedom, Inc.'s Mutual Aid program and our Freedom Council.

Your support allows Freedom, Inc. to continue working towards a world that is free from violence and building leadership in Dane County's Black and Southeast Asian Communities. Will you help us get to our goal of raising $20,000 to fund our culturally specific direct services (intimate partner violence & sexual assault advocacy, safe school advocacy, housing and shelter support, access to mental health services, legal council, etc.)

Give OUT Day is a month-long fundraising campaign beginning June 1 and culminating on June 28th. It is the only national giving event for the LGBTQ community. Since 2013, Give OUT Day has helped hundreds of LGBTQ nonprofits raise millions of dollars! The funds we raise during Give OUT Day will support Freedom, Inc.'s Queer Justice work - direct services and leadership development for Black and Southeast Asian LGBTQI+ people.
