Health Brigade

Health Brigade, formerly Fan Free Clinic, located in Richmond, VA, provides exceptional health services to those least served in a caring and non-judgmental environment.  As Virginia’s oldest free clinic, Health Brigade was born in a church basement during a time of social unrest. For over 50 years, we addressed the most challenging and often stigmatized health issues of the day.

We championed women’s health care in the 70’s and served as first responders to the AIDS pandemic in the 80’s. Today our services are just as critical as we provide health care, mental health and health outreach while welcoming the transgender community and undocumented persons.

We use a holistic person-centered care model, offering coordinated services for a healthy mind, body and spirit because we believe that EVERYONE, especially those facing barriers to care due to social stigma, deserves quality care.

We provide the following LGBTQ+ focused services: 

• Primary Medical Care
• Transgender Health Services
• HIV/STI Testing and Prevention
• Ryan White Part B (supportive services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS)
• PrEP (a pill taken daily to reduce the risk of HIV)
• Mental Health & Wellness
• Comprehensive Harm Reduction (Needle Exchange)
• LGBTQ Advocacy
