Lavender Rights Project is a Black Trans feminist organization committed to dismantling oppressive systems that disproportionately harm Black communities. We believe that those most impacted by injustice are the architects of liberation, and we ground our work in their lived experiences, resilience, and leadership. Through policy and legal advocacy, movement lawyering, community organizing, and wraparound supportive housing, we build pathways to justice, empowerment, and systemic change.

At Lavender Rights Project, our hope is rooted in something ancient and powerful: The Blueprint.

We know our ancestors didn’t just survive; they designed the way forward. Our ancestors mapped out what it means to care for each other, to fight for what’s right, and to hold onto joy even when the world tries to take it away.

That’s what The Blueprint means for us this year. The Blueprint is a reminder that even when times feel uncertain or the progress we’ve made feels under attack, we already know the way through. We’ve been here before. And every day, we’re putting that knowledge into practice: through our policy work, housing justice efforts, and unwavering commitment to Black and Trans liberation.

The Blueprint in Action

  • Fannie Lou Hamer taught us that liberation begins with truth-telling and community-led organizing.
  • Malcolm X showed us the power of self-determination and reclaiming our narratives.
  • Assata Shakur reminded us that resistance is love in action, and that joy is a political act.

    •  Harriet Tubman laid the original blueprint for collective liberation, refusing to leave anyone behind.

Our Real World Impact

"LRP is cultivating an intersectional movement centered on leadership development, building power, and creating communities of care. Our work is urgently needed right now given the onslaught of attacks against Black and trans communities. If we can get it right for Black trans women and their intersectional needs, then we can finally take care of everyone." - Jaelynn Scott, Executive Director

What your gift makes possible

Our areas of impact provide safety, empowerment, and leadership development for Black communities in Washington State and across the USA. Your gift makes the following priorities possible:

Policy & Decriminalization: LRP leads coordinated efforts with local, state, and national partners to challenge the over-policing and systemic violence that disproportionately targets and harms Black people, with an emphasis on targeting the criminalization of Black Trans and gender non-conforming community members.

Housing Justice:  LRP removes barriers to stable housing and safety by reallocating resources to meet the needs of Black communities.  In the last several years, we successfully redirected $16M in jail funding toward housing and economic development.  In partnership with King County, we established the Sharyn Grayson House, a permanent supportive housing program for individuals at risk of homelessness.

Narrative Power & Movement Building:  LRP is committed to reshaping public opinion, pressuring policymakers, and sustaining long-term political movements that center Black liberation.  We collaborate with organizations nationwide to challenge harmful narratives and amplify the voice of Black Trans and gender-diverse people with in the movement
