Sylvia Rivera Law Project

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project works to increase the political voice and visibility of low-income people and people of color who are transgender, intersex, and gender non-conforming. We do this by providing free legal services, building community, influencing policy, and advocating on issues relevant to our community members’ lives. 

Here is a glimpse of the crucial work your donation makes possible: 

• Through community organizing and impact litigation, SRLP continues to demand safe, accessible, and trans affirming healthcare for transgender and gender nonconforming people and all low-income New Yorkers. 
• In our Prisoner Justice Project, SRLP is ensuring the effective enforcement of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) in collaboration with SRLP’s Prisoner Advisory Committee, made up of incarcerated trans and gender non-conforming people. 
• Our Movement Building Team, along with BRC, has a housing program that is thriving with 4 apartments specifically for Trans folx in Brooklyn and the Bronx.
