It took only one Support Group meeting to open my eyes, ears, and heart to the true value of PFLAG in our community. As I sat in the room, waiting for my turn to share, I heard stories of oppression of people trying to find their true selves, of kids being bullied in schools, and families trying to come to grips with a relative "coming out."
Honestly, my life was turned inside out as I came to the realization that PFLAG can help support in all of these cases. PFLAG is like a family that will keep your secrets, offer you hope, and give you a hug when you need it.
The thing is that the group is run entirely of volunteers and run from the donations made to the local organization! PFLAG New Orleans celebrated 39 years of helping local LGBT families but every outreach event, scholarships, and even operations need your financial help.
