LGBTQ+ Youth in Foster Care

June is #PrideMonth, a time to celebrate the diversity and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. This month, Family Builders has partnered with GiveOUT to bring the voice of LGBTQ+ youth in foster care to the #Pride discussion. GiveOUT is a national outpouring of support for hundreds of LGBTQ+ nonprofits and schools across the U.S.

LGBTQ+ youth are vastly overrepresented in the foster care system, with an estimated 34% of youth in foster care identifying as LGBTQ+. Family Builders knows that families can and do change, and that’s why we’ve developed innovative programs like the Youth Acceptance Project to address the misinformation, resistance, and fear that families sometimes struggle with when their child comes out.
