Chosen Family Law Center Give OUT Day 2024!

Chosen Family Law Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating equitable social and legal recognition of LGBTQIA+ and polyamorous families and individuals, as well as other underserved family forms such as platonic co-parents or multigenerational families. We are working to eliminate prejudice and discrimination, and defend human, civil, and other rights for our community! We also advocate for legislative changes and offer education to lawyers, therapists, and other professionals to enable them to best serve our community.   

Our definition of family is people who are committed to be there for each other no matter what, which includes chosen family who have no biological relationship or legal marriage, but create a connection with dedication and care! Many LGBTQIA+ people throughout history build chosen families when rejected by their biological families of origin, or when wanting families that share their values. 

The founders of Chosen Family Law Center have been buoyed by their own chosen families and work to create protections for their families and others like them. We believe these families deserve the stability that comes with the opportunity for legal agreements and partnership recognition.

We're proud to provide pro-bono legal services via our:

• Trans Umbrella Project for name and gender marker changes and legal protection package for trans and nonbinary folks;
• Parentage Protection Project for Donor Agreements to protect non-biological parents who are in same-sex couples or LGBTQIA; 
• Poly Families Project/Queer Kinship Project to support polyamorous families, parent groups of 3 or more, caretaking partnerships, kinship networks, and other non-nuclear families. Will and Estate documents, CoParenting Agreements, and CoHabitation Agreements for Family Structure Self-Determination - helping queer families understand their options for intentionality and resiliency in their family connections - and End-Of-Life Self-Determination: medical and legal advance directives to ensure your family connections and self-determination persist in the event of illness or injury; and
• Asylee Assistance Project to help those who have already been granted asylum based on their LGBTQIA+ status with applying for an Adjustment of Status (aka a Green Card) to ensure their safety from being deported.
