Somos Familia - From Mi Familia to Yours

Somos Familia was the first space our parents were able to receive support and ask questions in a bilingual, bicultural context we had never seen before.  It created a trickle effect that built our confidence to approach other family members, answer questions, and become a “queer home base” for family and friends.

We want to pay it forward and have been working with Somos Familia for ten years.  We now serve as board members and Nancy was recently elected Board President! Mateo has begun shadowing Nancy and plans to apply for Board President in 2039!

What is Somos Familia?

Somos Familia is a community-based organization founded in 2007 by two moms who wanted to make the world safer and more accepting of our Latinx Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) youth and their families.

Today we are asking you to donate to the cause of Somos Familia so that we can continue with our mission to build leadership in our Latinx families and communities to create a culture where people of diverse genders and sexual orientations can thrive.

 This year we will be using 50% of the funds raised on Give-Out Day for our COVID-19 relief fund, which provides financial assistance to people affected by the pandemic. The other 50% will be used to continue to do the lifesaving work of supporting, educating, and building leadership in LGBTQ+ Latinxs and their families.
