Save Southern LGBTQ History

As Southern LGBTQ people become more and more under attack, it is critical that we save our rich and diverse histories. This Pride season, we are raising $7,000 to purchase 25 Queer History Field Kits that will help organizers and community members actively preserve their own histories. 

The Queer History Field Kits will consist of items needed to conduct oral histories, preserve textiles, digitize documents, and store archival materials. They will also include instructions on how to conduct oral histories and collect archival materials all in a portable backpack. 

Once we have reached our fundraising goal, a call for kits will be released on our social media and email list. This call will allow anyone in the Southern US (Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia) to request a backpack to help preserve their local history. IHP will work with our archival repository partners throughout the South to ensure that collected materials and oral histories are stored locally as well as on IHP's backup storage.

What we are experiencing in the South is historic, for better or worse. Your donation will help ensure that we are saving our histories past, present, and future. We will not go back in the closet. We will not be erased. Help us save our stories for future generations.
