Founded in 2019, TRACTION is a trans-led 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Washington state. Their mission is to cultivate connection, visibility, and belonging for transgender and gender-diverse people through service in support of underserved communities.
Project Open Arms is a grassroots resettlement project of TRACTION started in response to the alarming increase in anti-trans legislation and rhetoric across the country. Hundreds of thousands of Two-Spirit, transgender, nonbinary, gender-diverse, and gender-nonconforming (trans+) people and their families are seeking to escape legislative persecution and violence.
The Open Arms Project's goal is to support U.S. “transplants” – trans+ people and their loved ones displaced by violence and persecution – seeking safer, more welcoming places to live. Since they began providing direct assistance in early 2025, The Open Arms Project has grown to almost 70 volunteers and have served over 500 trans+ people and their loved ones - including over 110 who have completed moves to safer areas!
TRACTION and the organizers of the TRANSplant Event have partnered to help provide material resources and reimbursements to trans+ Idahoans; who struggle to find a safe and welcoming community, and are seeking relocation assistance from The Open Arms Project.
While TRACTION cannot provide cash grants or direct services, they have offered to provide material resources and reimbursements such as: direct reimbursement for moving-related expenses (up to $300 per group), plane/bus/train tickets for those moving to safer areas, welcome baskets (with prepaid grocery cards, transit cards, etc.) and more of the like.
Our goal is to fundraise and help cover the expense of these material resources and reimbursements, for trans+ Idahoans seeking relocation assistance. Net proceeds from tickets sales will go towards the cause. Proceeds from art market sales will go towards the cause.
If you can't attend, feel free to donate here. No contribution is too small! At the end of the day, our goal is to make life just a little easier for trans+ Idahoans seeking a place where they can feel secure and at home.
