EQUALITY TEXAS

For almost 50 years, Equality Texas has worked to secure equality for the LGBTQIA+ community in the hearts and minds of all Texans and in all areas of the law. Equality Texas guides activists through their advocacy journey, providing the issue and skills education necessary to confidently exercise their individual and collective power to protect and advance LGBTQIA+ rights in Texas.

When we began organizing almost five decades ago, we blocked attempts to quarantine people with HIV/AIDS. Since then, our issues have evolved, but our unwavering commitment to protect and expand the rights of LGBTQIA+ Texans has not. 

WHAT’S NEXT

Texas is one of 27 states without inclusive, comprehensive nondiscrimination protections for the LGBTQIA+ community. Queer and trans Texans lack basic legal protections that leave us vulnerable to discrimination in employment, public accommodations, education, credit, and housing. Although we celebrate recent victories, there is still work to be done. Equality Texas will continue to fight until there are statewide protections for all people under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. Here’s how you can help:

We need your continued fortitude, advocacy, and generosity to combat legislation used to render LGBTQIA+ Texans as second-class citizens. We will not stand by and watch as our lives are put in jeopardy by discrimination and hate.

The work of Equality Texas never stops: we’re at the Capitol, we’re at the school board meetings, we’re on your Instagram, and we’re in the news. But we can’t do this work without your support. Thanks to your support, we’ve spent the last nearly 50 years bettering the lives of LGBTQIA+ Texans through public education campaigns, advocacy training programs, and serving as a resource hub for the queer community around the state. And we plan to spend the next 50 years doing exactly that and more.
