Transgender Awareness Alliance

TAA exists to supply emergency assistance to the transgender community of SC and partners with other organizations to create an affirming network of legal, health and consumer resources.

The foundational work of TAA is assisting the transgender community with getting name and gender marker changes. We have implemented the Community Health Worker (CHW) model in how we engage with our community and work to provide one-on-one wrap around services based on elements of their lives that they want to improve, add to, or change. Working with participants and their families to grow and transform their lives, improving their Social Determinants of Health (SDoH). TAA has partnered with SC Thrive, continuing to provide marginalized and underrepresented communities access to benefits and other various resources they qualify for. Ensuring communities have access to meet their everyday necessities is often what is needed to help them re-gain the ability to become stable, and empower them to become self sufficient. Our goal is to lead as many people to autonomy as possible, while also providing a sense of community through our community meet ups. We meet with gender diverse, LGBQIA+ , supportive family members and friends. Community is larger than one group and we all have many intersections that need to be loved on.
